We Buy Surplus Specialty and Flexible Cable in Iowa
Specialty cable is the catch-all for everything that is not building wire or tray cable, and it is where a lot of value hides in plain sight: welding lead on a reel, portable cord in coils, boxes of plenum-rated communication cable, low-voltage control and fire-alarm cable left from a tenant fit-out.
Overview
08
We buy welding cable from #6 to 4/0, SOOW, SJOOW and portable cord, communication and category cable, low-voltage and thermostat cable, fire-alarm cable including FPLR and FPLP, and flexible control and robotic cable. Flexible cable with worn jackets is judged on the jacket, not the copper alone.
Quick quote: the fastest route is a photo of the reel, a photo of the jacket print and the city or ZIP. Call +1 (614) 715-3047 if you would rather talk it through.

Constructions and sizes
What the jacket print tells us, and why it matters.
| Product | Typical sizes | What we check |
|---|---|---|
| Welding cable | #6 – 4/0 | Jacket abrasion, lugs, coil condition |

| Communication cable | Cat 5e, Cat 6, riser and plenum | Sealed boxes, date codes |
| Low voltage | 18/2 – 14/2, multi-conductor | Spool labels, jacket integrity |
| Fire alarm | FPLR, FPLP, 14/2 – 16/4 | Rating print, sealed cartons |
Condition
C
Condition, packaging and what we pass on
We quote what is usable and say plainly what is not.
Sealed boxes and full spools with labels are the strongest material here. Open coils of portable cord are still buyable if the jacket is sound and the ends are clean.
Welding cable is judged hard on jacket condition — it lives on shop floors and gets dragged. Worn jacket with visible conductor is scrap; scuffed jacket with intact insulation is a candidate.
Iowa
D
Specialty and Flexible Cable from Iowa businesses
Fabricators, weld shops, ag equipment dealers and maintenance departments across Iowa hold welding cable and portable cord surplus. Communication and fire-alarm cable tends to come from electrical contractors and low-voltage integrators in the metro areas after a commercial fit-out.
Schools, hospitals and university facilities in Ames, Iowa City and Cedar Falls also clear cable when they standardise systems — often in sealed boxes that are worth a proper look.
Questions
E
Specialty and Flexible Cable: questions sellers ask
Do you buy welding cable with worn jackets?
If the conductor is exposed, that section is scrap. If the jacket is scuffed but intact, the coil is reviewed normally. Photograph the worst spot.
Are partial boxes of Cat 6 or communication cable worth selling?
Sealed boxes with legible labels are. Loose, unspooled cable usually is not, because it cannot be reliably pulled.
Do you take fire-alarm cable with the rating print worn off?
Only if the carton or spool label confirms the rating. FPLR and FPLP cannot be assumed.
Do you buy portable cord in mixed lengths?
Yes, in tidy coils. Ten-foot pieces are a scrap item; fifty-foot coils with clean ends are useful.

Tell us what you have
No obligation and no cost to ask. If the material is not a fit, we will say so plainly.

Tell us what the wire is, how much there is and where it sits. Photos of the reels, jacket print and wire ends let us give a real number instead of a guess.
