We Buy Bare Copper and Grounding Wire in Iowa

Bare copper is the simplest material to value and the easiest to overlook. It sits in coil form at the bottom of a gang box, or on a wooden reel behind a panel shop, and nobody thinks to sell it until the bay is being cleared.

Overview

07

We buy bare stranded and solid copper, grounding electrode conductors from #6 up to 500 MCM, tinned copper, ground braid, bare neutral and copper wire recovered from demolished services. Because it is bare, weight is a reliable measure — but usable coils on a reel still price better than scrap.

Quick quote: the fastest route is a photo of the reel, a photo of the jacket print and the city or ZIP. Call +1 (614) 715-3047 if you would rather talk it through.

Condition

C

Condition, packaging and what we pass on

We quote what is usable and say plainly what is not.

Bare copper oxidises, and that is normal. Green or brown surface colour does not reduce the metal content, though heavily corroded braid or wire contaminated with solder, paint or concrete is priced as scrap.

Clean coils that are still tied and labelled are worth more than a tangled box, because they can be sold as wire rather than melted.

Bare Copper and Grounding Wire from Iowa businesses

Grounding wire surplus comes from commercial electrical contractors, panel shops, utility crews and demolition contractors across the state. Service-change work in older Iowa neighborhoods — Des Moines east side, Cedar Rapids, Dubuque, Burlington — routinely produces bare copper from panels and ground plates.

If you are clearing a shop, weigh the coils and send the weights with a photo. Bare copper is one of the few categories where a scale reading is as good as a reel tag.

Questions

E

Bare Copper and Grounding Wire: questions sellers ask

Does oxidised bare copper sell for less?

Not meaningfully, as long as it is clean metal. Surface oxidation is expected. Paint, solder, concrete or mixed metals are what reduce value.

Do you buy bare copper by weight?

Yes. For bare copper we usually work from weight, and we will tell you the unit we are quoting so you can compare it against a scrap yard.

Will you take tangled wire?

Tangled wire is priced as scrap because it cannot be resold as wire. Tied coils and full reels get the better number.

Do you buy grounding wire from demolished services?

Yes, provided it is separated from other metals and not mixed with conduit, fittings or debris.

Have reels, spools or cut lengths to move?

Send the wire type, footage and a few photos. We review every request and reply with a quote or a clear no.
