We Buy Surplus Aluminum Wire and Cable in Iowa

Aluminum carries most of the service and underground distribution cable in Iowa, and a lot of it ends up in the back of a warehouse when a project changes size. We buy surplus aluminum SER and SEU service cable, URD and USE-2 direct-burial cable, XHHW aluminum feeders and aluminum tray and control cable.

Overview

02

Aluminum is priced differently from copper, and the construction matters: quadruplex URD on a weathered wooden reel is a different conversation from a sealed reel of 500 MCM XHHW. We quote from the construction, the size and the footage, not from a single per-pound number.

Quick quote: the fastest route is a photo of the reel, a photo of the jacket print and the city or ZIP. Call +1 (614) 715-3047 if you would rather talk it through.

Condition

C

Condition, packaging and what we pass on

We quote what is usable and say plainly what is not.

Unused aluminum on factory reels is straightforward. Pulled cable is judged on the jacket: direct-burial cable that has been in the ground usually goes to scrap, while cable pulled and re-reeled without damage can still be resaleable.

Small aluminum branch-circuit wire from older residential work is generally a scrap item rather than a resale item, and we will say so rather than inflate an offer.

Aluminum Wire and Cable from Iowa businesses

Aluminum service cable turns up all over rural Iowa: co-op yards in Spencer or Atlantic with leftover URD, ag equipment dealers near Fort Dodge, and grain and feed facilities that re-ran a service and kept the old reels. In the metros it usually comes from commercial service upgrades and multi-family work.

If the cable is still on the reel with the tag readable, tell us the type and footage. If it is loose, measure a coil diameter and we will work from an estimate.

Questions

E

Aluminum Wire and Cable: questions sellers ask

Is aluminum wire worth selling, or is it only scrap?

Usable aluminum cable is worth selling as cable. It is worth less per pound than copper, but a sealed reel of 4/0 SER still has real value as material. Scrap pricing only applies when the cable cannot be reused.

Do you buy old aluminum branch-circuit wiring?

Small solid aluminum branch wire from older homes is normally a scrap purchase, not a resale one. We will still quote it if there is enough of it, and tell you which basis applies.

Do you take URD that was pulled out of the ground?

Send photos of the jacket along its length. Cable with intact insulation and clean ends is reviewed as material; cable with abrasions, moisture ingress or heavy soil is a scrap item.

Can you quote from reel tags alone?

Yes, if the tag is legible and shows the construction, size and footage. Add one photo of the reel so we can see how much is actually left and how it has been stored.

Still unsure whether your material fits? Call +1 (614) 715-3047 or email saleselectricalbuyers@gmail.com.

Have reels, spools or cut lengths to move?

Send the wire type, footage and a few photos. We review every request and reply with a quote or a clear no.
