Questions and Answers
What Iowa sellers ask before sending photos: what we buy, how quoting works, what happens to the material, and what we will not take.

Everything we get asked
If your question is not here, call or email — we answer plainly.
What kind of electrical wire do you buy in Iowa?
Copper and aluminum building wire, industrial cable, service and underground cable, bare copper and grounding wire, specialty and flexible cable, and medium voltage cable from 5 kV to 69 kV and above. We buy full reels, partial reels, spools, coils, cartons and unused cut lengths.
Do you buy partial reels and small quantities?
Yes. Partial reels are the most common thing we buy. A legible footage tag helps, but we can work from a measured coil, a scale reading or a photo of the reel.
How do you price surplus wire?
Usable wire is priced as wire — by construction, gauge, footage and condition. Material that cannot be reused is priced as scrap by weight. We tell you which basis a quote uses, so the number is never a surprise.
Do you buy every item regardless of condition?
No, and we will not pretend otherwise. We review what you send and quote what is usable. If part of a lot is beyond reuse, we will say so and explain why it was excluded.
Do you have an office or warehouse in Iowa?
No walk-in office or yard. We buy from businesses statewide and arrange pickup or freight per load once a quote is accepted, so there is nothing to visit in person.
How quickly will I hear back?
Most quote requests get a reply within one business day. Loads with clear photos, reel tags and a city or ZIP move fastest, because there is less to clarify.
Can you pick up material outside the Des Moines area?
Yes. We buy statewide, from Council Bluffs and Sioux City to Dubuque and Burlington. Pickup or freight is planned per load, and for a single small reel we will be honest about whether a run makes sense.
What photos should I send with a quote request?
Four things help most: a wide photo of the reels or spools, a close photo of the jacket print, a photo of any reel tag or label, and a photo of the wire ends. Add a shot of the loading access if it is unusual.
Do you buy wire that has already been installed and removed?
Sometimes. Pulled cable is judged on jacket condition and whether it was re-reeled without damage. Direct-burial cable that has been in the ground is usually a scrap item, not a resale item.
Do you buy transformers, switchgear or breakers?
No. This site buys electrical wire and cable only. We do not buy transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, MCCs, generators, bus plugs, chillers, machinery or vehicles.
Who arranges freight, and who pays for it?
That is part of the quote conversation. Depending on the load, we either collect or arrange freight, and the transport cost is accounted for in the offer so there is no separate surprise invoice.
Is there a minimum quantity?
There is no formal minimum, but a single small spool rarely justifies a trip on its own. Send it anyway; if it can be paired with another stop in the area, we will say so.
What information do you need to price a reel without a tag?
The gauge and construction from the jacket print, plus either a tape measure across the wound cable, the coil width, or a weight. Any two of those give us a workable estimate.

Not on the list?

What we do not buy
We buy wire and cable. We do not buy transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, motor control centres, generators, bus plugs, chillers, machinery, vehicles or general surplus equipment. If a lot mixes wire with those items, only the wire is quoted.
We also do not publish reviews, testimonials, transaction histories or invented statistics. What we can tell you is how a quote is built and what happens after you accept one.
Have reels, spools or cut lengths to move?
Send the wire type, footage and a few photos. We review every request and reply with a quote or a clear no.

Photos are the fastest route to a real number. Reels, jacket print, tags and cut ends.
Tell us what you have
No obligation and no cost to ask. If the material is not a fit, we will say so plainly.
Request a quote for your surplus wire
Tell us what the wire is, how much there is and where it sits. Photos of the reels, jacket print and wire ends let us give a real number instead of a guess.
