We Buy Surplus Building Wire in Iowa
Building wire is the everyday material of electrical work, and it is also the most common surplus: a job finishes, three colors are half used, and the reels sit on a shelf until someone decides to clear the bay. We buy THHN, THWN, THWN-2, XHHW and XHHW-2 building wire in copper and aluminum, from #14 branch sizes up to 1000 MCM feeders.
Overview
03
We buy full reels, partial reels, spools, unopened cartons and unused cut lengths. Standard colors move best, but odd colors and discontinued specs are still worth a look — send the jacket print and we will tell you what the reel is.
Quick quote: the fastest route is a photo of the reel, a photo of the jacket print and the city or ZIP. Call +1 (614) 715-3047 if you would rather talk it through.

Condition, packaging and what we pass on
We quote what is usable and say plainly what is not.
The main questions on a building-wire reel are footage and jacket condition. A reel with a legible tag and 800 of 1,000 ft left is easy to price; a bare reel with no tag needs a measured diameter or a weighed spool before we can commit.
Wire that has been pulled through conduit and re-reeled is reviewed as used material. It is often still buyable, but never at new-surplus pricing.
Iowa
D
Building Wire from Iowa businesses
Iowa has a deep bench of commercial electrical contractors, and most of them have a shelf of half-used reels after a hospital, school or data hall job. Distributors in Des Moines, Cedar Rapids and Davenport also clear discontinued colors and slow-moving sizes at the end of a season.
Plant maintenance departments are another steady source: a food processing line in Marshalltown or an equipment manufacturer in Waterloo may standardise on one wire spec and hold a decade of leftovers that no longer matches the current build.
Questions
E
Building Wire: questions sellers ask
Do you buy partial reels of building wire?
Yes, that is most of what we buy. If the tag shows the original footage and the reel still has a readable length, we can quote from photos. Otherwise we work from weight or a measured coil.
Will you take a mixed lot of colors and sizes?
Yes. List the sizes and footages, or photograph each tag in one wide shot, and we will price the lot line by line.
Do unopened cartons sell for more?
Usually, yes. Sealed 500 ft and 1,000 ft cartons with factory labels are the easiest material to resell, so they get the strongest offers.
Is old THHN still buyable if the nylon jacket is scuffed?
Light scuffing is normal and fine. Deep gouges, exposed copper or crushed reels move a reel toward scrap. Send a close photo of the worst spot and we will judge that reel on its own.
