We Buy Surplus SER, URD and Underground Cable in Iowa

Service and underground cable is bought in big lengths and left over in small ones. A service upgrade needs 120 ft and the reel holds 500; an underground run gets re-routed and the URD never goes in the trench. That leftover is exactly what we buy.

Overview

05

We purchase SER and SEU service-entrance cable, URD triplex and quadruplex assemblies, USE-2 and USE direct-burial cable, and related service and distribution cable in copper and aluminum. Tell us the construction, the conductor size and the footage, and whether it has been in the ground.

Quick quote: the fastest route is a photo of the reel, a photo of the jacket print and the city or ZIP. Call +1 (614) 715-3047 if you would rather talk it through.

Condition

C

Condition, packaging and what we pass on

We quote what is usable and say plainly what is not.

Cable that never left the reel is simple. Cable that was pulled, coiled and stored is judged on jacket integrity — direct-burial insulation does not like years of sun, and a coil that sat in water is a scrap item.

If a reel only has part of its original length, a measured coil diameter or a weight is enough for a working estimate. We would rather quote from an honest estimate than refuse the load.

Service and Underground Cable from Iowa businesses

Rural electric work drives this category in Iowa. Co-op and contractor yards in Spencer, Carroll, Atlantic, Fort Dodge and Decorah regularly hold leftover URD and USE-2 after service work, while metro crews in Ankeny, Urbandale and Bettendorf produce SER and SEU remainders from panel upgrades and multi-family projects.

Warehouse and shop expansions around the interstate corridors also leave direct-burial cable behind when a service size changes mid-project.

Questions

E

Service and Underground Cable: questions sellers ask

Do you buy URD that has already been buried?

Usually not as resaleable cable. Once direct-burial insulation has been in soil, moisture and abrasion make it a scrap item. Pulled cable that was never energised and is still clean is reviewed normally.

Can you price SER from the conductor size alone?

We need the conductor size, the number of conductors and an approximate length. The jacket print normally gives all three; a photo of the print plus the reel is ideal.

What about service cable with a damaged outer jacket?

A shallow scuff is fine. A jacket cut down to the conductors means that section is scrap, and the rest of the reel is priced around the damage.

Do you take loose coils, not just reels?

Yes. Coils are common for leftovers, and they are welcome as long as the ends are taped and the coil is not tangled.
